Watch an exclusive clip from Dash Shaw's Sundance-winning "Cryptozoo"
Cryptozoo, one of the most arresting animated features of the year so far, opens in North America on Friday. Ahead of the release, we're presenting an exclusive clip of the film.
The Cryptozoo is described as “a sanctuary … a place for all the unloved animals in the world,” and the film follows cryptozookeepers as they attempt to capture the dream-eating baku, who is highly coveted by multiple parties.
Cryptozoo is directed and written by Dash Shaw. It is the comics artist and filmmaker's sophomore feature, following 2016's My Entire High School Sinking Into the Sea. Jane Samborski served as animation director, and the voice cast includes Lake Bell, Zoe Kazan, Michael Cera, Louisa Krause, Peter Stormare, Thomas Jay Ryan, and Grace Zabriskie.
The film made waves at Sundance this year, where it won the Next Innovator Award. It also earned a special mention in the Generation 14plus section of the Berlin International Film Festival. We recently included it among our round-up of potential Oscar 2022 contenders.
Magnolia Pictures is releasing Cryptozoo on Friday in theaters and on video on demand. Watch the trailer and check out the poster below:
