Netflix Orders Nicole Silverberg's "Bad Crime", Executive Produced by Mike Judge and Greg Daniels
Netflix has ordered 10 episodes of the adult animated series Bad Crimes from creator Nicole Silverberg (pictured top, left), a former supervising writer on Full Frontal with Samantha Bee and editor at Reductress, the online satirical women's magazine.
Who's involved with the series: King of the Hill creators Mike Judge (pictured top, middle) and Greg Daniels (right) are executive producers through their new production company Bandera Entertainment. Erica Hayes, a director on Rick and Morty season 4, is handling the visual development of the show and will also serve as EP. Other EPs are Dustin Davis of Bandera and the two lead voice actresses, Nicole Byer and Lauren Lapkus.
What is the show about: Byer and Lapkus are Kara and Jennie, two FBI agents who travel across the country to solve grisly crimes while juggling their friendship, career ambitions, and as many men as possible. Netflix describes the series as a “dark comedy procedural.” Silverberg says she chose to work with Netflix because the streamer “encourages my grossest, most violent comedy fantasies.”
How Judge and Daniels are involved: After King of the Hill, Judge and Daniels went their separate ways, but they recently reteamed to launch Bandera Entertainment, whose goal is “to curate a relevant, diverse slate of animated programming” and “to expand the animation genre into as many modern types of storytelling as live action.” Bandera sold its first show – the Ana Drezen-created Praise Petey – to Disney's Freeform last month.
What other animated projects are Judge and Daniels developing at Bandera: A piece in The Hollywood Reporter revealed that Bandera has a robust slate of projects in development, including a children's series by Sacha Baron Cohen, an adaptation of Alison Bechdel's Dykes to Watch Out For, and projects with Zach Woods (Silicon Valley), Jimmy O. Yang (Space Force, Silicon Valley), and tattoo/graffiti artist Mr. Cartoon. The pair are also working on a reboot of King of the Hill.
