Warner Bros.We have signed an agreement with Amazon for DC animated content.
Warner Bros.According to Television Group Chairman Channing Dungey, Warner Bros.Television Studios is close to signing a major animation contract with AMAZON for DC-branded animated content, the company said.Speaking at Content London last week, Dungey explained that Warner is putting together a plan to popularize animated IP on a variety of platforms, including its own hbo Max.
Regarding the change in strategy, Dungey said, "With animation, it used to be about staying in-house, but now we do it on different platforms. HBO Max is our first destination, but we're in the process of closing a big deal with Amazon featuring DC-branded content in animation."
While Dungy's comments are interesting and specific, they are not suggesting something entirely new. On May 8, during the now infamous Q2 earnings call, Warner Bros.Discovery CEO David Zaslav explained that the company will rely heavily on its impressive IP catalog as it is working towards repaying about純480 billion in net debt (according to its 11-month earnings report). Since then, Warner Bros. Sure that some major titles are no longer moving forward with HBO Max, but continue to develop and produce with the intention of selling to other platforms and broadcasters.
On the same day that Dungey made a comment in London, James Gunn– recently tapped into co-head DC Studios and appeared in a picture of the Justice League. "Make a plan," he tweeted.

Since his appointment, alongside Peter Safran, co-head of DC Studios, Gunn has explained that he wants to create a more unified canon across dc's live-action, animated and video game content. How it will work on multiple platforms is a big issue going forward, but warner Bros.Fans of animated DC shows should be more convinced that their favorites may be sticking, even though they continue to cut costs across their various production businesses.
