New Dragon Ball Series Powers Up
"Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F'", the 19th theatrical installment of the "Dragon Ball" series, opened in Japan this month. The franchise is returning to television some 18 years after Goku took off on the Flying Nimbus in the final episode of Dragon Ball GT.
Dragon Ball Super will premiere in July on Fuji TV in Japan, Toei Animation announced yesterday. No U.S. release date has been announced.
The new episode will be supervised by Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama and will follow Goku's epic battle with Majin Buu, and will be directed by Kimitoshi Senga, who storyboarded the 2013 feature film Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods.
The announcement follows the box office success of the feature film "Dragon Ball Z: Resurrection 'F'" in Japan, with the English dubbed version to be released in the US in the summer.
"When I joined Toei Animation, one of my first assignments was the production of 'Dragon Ball Z.' Although it was only for a short period of time, being a part of this series was something I will never forget." We look forward to continuing the great legacy of Dragon Ball and bringing audiences a whole new Dragon Ball with the same feeling and commitment that went into past Dragon Ball films."
Toei Animation producer Atsushi Kido stated in a press release.
Veteran Japanese voice actress Masako Nozawa, who turns 79 in October, will reprise her roles of Goku, Gohan, and Goten. Nozawa said, "I hope this series lasts as long and has the same impact on the world as its predecessors."
