Goro Miyazaki to Direct Studio Ghibli's First TV Series "Ronia The Robber's Daughter"
Studio Ghibli will produce its first animated television series with Goro Miyazaki ("Gedo Senki," "From Up on Poppy Hill"), the son of director Hayao Miyazaki. The CG series, titled "The Bandit's Daughter Ronia," is based on the book of the same name by Swedish children's author Astrid Lindgren ("Pippi Longstocking"). [It is a coming-of-age story set in the forests of medieval Europe, where Ronia, the daughter of the chief of a bandit tribe, is fascinated by the strange creatures that live in the forest and meets a boy named Birk, the son of the enemy chief.
"'Ronia the Thief's Daughter' is not just a story about a girl growing up," says Goro Miyazaki. It is a story of love and growth between parent and child, and of the bonds between friends." We aim to create a work that everyone, from children to adults, can enjoy."
[4The screenplay is by Hiroyuki Kawasaki ("After War: Gundam X," "Irresponsible Captain Tyler," "Psychic Detective Yakumo") and the animation production is by Studio Ghibli and Polygon Pictures ("Star Wars: The Clone Wars," "Tron: Uprising," "Sky Crawlers The Sky Crawlers), and will be broadcast this fall on Japan's public broadcaster NHK and satellite channel BS Premium.
