Emmy Awards 2017 Winner: 'Samurai Jack' Leads Animated Project with Four Awards

The final season of "Samurai Jack" was the big winner of the 2017 Creative Arts Emmy Awards in the animation category, taking home four awards at the ceremony held last Saturday and Sunday at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles.

All four of these Adult Swim Series honors were won for Individual Achievement in Animation, which is a juried award, judged by a panel of judges comprised of members from the appropriate chapters, rather than by a vote of the entire membership. The four artists who received awards for Samurai Jack were Brian Andrews (storyboard artist), Scott Wills (production designer), Craig Kelman (character designer), and Lou Romano (scenic designer).

The following is the official explanation of how the TV Academy voted for the judging categories, which also included Innovation in Interactive Programming and Motion Design. As a result, no nominations will be made, but a single level of evaluation and voting will take place. The deliberations will include an open discussion of each entrant's work and a thorough review of its merits for an Emmy Award. After each deliberation, the jury will consider the question, "Does this work deserve an Emmy - for or against?" Only those approved unanimously will receive the award.

The list of this year's Emmy winners related to animation is as follows. For more information on the nominees in the animation category, see our previous article.
