bong joon ho, director of parasites, is working on a CG feature.
Bong Joon-ho has written a script for an animated feature, according to South Korea's Yonhap News Agency.
The Korean project was announced by Seoul-based animation and vfx studio 4th Creative Party, which is working on the film. It is described as “a full computer graphic animation that tells a story about mankind and deepwater creatures.”
Bong started work on the project in 2018; it was not confirmed whether he will direct. He is currently also working on a script for an English-language live-action feature, and the animated film is expected to come out after that one.
Bong's last film em>Parasite won four Oscars last year, including best director and best picture. The filmmaker is no stranger to animation: the title character in his 2017 feature Okja was cg-animated (4th Creative Party worked on the film, as well as Bong's The Host and Snowpiercer). But he has yet to write or direct a fully animated feature.
Last month, he told a group of film students that it was his dream to make an animated film:
Speaking on the podcast The Director's Cut in February, Bong said he had been working on two scripts since Parasite, one in Korean, one in English. “The Korean film is located in Seoul and has unique elements of horror and action,” he said.
