Netflix has released the trailer for A Tale Dark & Grimm, a new cg comedy series launching October 8.

Based on the best-selling book series by Adam Gidwitz, the fairytale mash-up stars Hansel and Gretel. Per Netflix's synopsis:

The supervising director of Dark & Grimm is Simon Otto, a 21-year veteran of Dreamworks Animation who was head of character animation on the How to Train your Dragon trilogy. Otto is currently working on his feature directorial debut: That Christmas for Locksmith Animation (Ron's Gone Wrong).

This is the first produced adaptation of Gidwitz's overhaul of dark fairy tales, however, other filmmakers have been circling the property since the original book was published in 2010. For example, back in 2013, we reported that Henry Selick had signed on to direct a live-action feature adaptation of the book.

Otto is also executive producer on the series, alongside David Henrie (This Is the Year, Wizards of Waverly Place), James Henrie (This Is the Year, The Good Life) Bug Hall, Bob Higgins (Dino Ranch, The Who Was Show), Jon Rutherford (Dino Ranch, Daniel Spellbound), and Doug Langdale (Dave the Barbarian, The Weekenders).

A Tale Dark & Grimm was produced in partnership with Boat Rocker Studios and in association with Novo Media Group and Astro-Nomical Entertainment. The animation was produced by Boat Rocker's Jam Filled Entertainment, which is based out of Ottawa, Canada, with additional facilities in Toronto and Halifax.

The series features the voices of Raini Rodriguez, Andre Robinson, Scott Adsit, Ron Funches, Erica Rhodes, Adam Lambert, Eric Bauza, Tom Hollander, Missi Pyle, and Nicole Byer.
