Cartoon saloon's "My Father's Dragon" cleans up at the Irish Animation Awards.

The 2023 Irish Animation Awards were held in Galway over the weekend and the ceremony took place for the first time since 2019.

My Father's Dragon of Cartoon Saloon was a big winner in this year's awards, taking 5 awards including the best Irish feature.

Directed by Nora Twomey, the Netflix original film is based on Ruth Stiles Gannett's Newbury Award・winning children's book of the same name. The script was written by John Morgan and the Inside Out screenwriter Meg Lefove (Inside Out), who adapted the script.

From the TV category, both Tales of the Igloo animated kids series Dúndraíochta and Odo of 16South received 2 awards, previously winning the Best Animated Kids Series.

Speaking about the impressive growth of the Irish animation industry in recent years, Animation Ireland Chief Executive Ronan McCabe said the Re department continues to force ahead in terms of both the quality of the works being produced, which you can certainly see from the award ceremony and the number of works being delivered."
