Warner Bros. has picked up "Barney's World," a reboot of Cartoon Network, Cartoonito and Max's CG animation.

Warner Bros. Discovery will pick up the new cg animation Barney reboot Barney's World and bring the legendary purple dinosaur to Cartoonito, Cartoon Network and Max later this year.

The new Barney series, announced on May 2, is one of many restarts of popular 1980s and 1990s children's programs that are heading for television, streaming and theater in the near future.1 In fact, Max will premiere Gremlins: Secrets of Mogwai later this month.

Here's what we know about Bernie's world so far:

The view of comic Brewing: Either for Bernie's world, or for a reboot of children's programming decades ago, the key to success with a modern children's audience depends on the quality of the product and is not the brand itself. Super Mario Bros. movies take advantage of nostalgic audiences because adults also watch it. It's hard to imagine a lot of people in their 30s and 40s sitting down to watch Bernie's show just because they had an affinity for characters when they were toddlers.

That said, as Wbd moves forward, we expect to see further exploitation of classic IP, whether it's original programming like Gremlins or acquisitions like Barney's World. CEO David Zaslav is promoting wbd's catalog because he took over the company, and during the company's Q1 earnings call earlier this week, he lamented that "we're not doing much in animation at this company," saying that the goal is to make Warners' animated costumes productive again.
