Netflix's "Arcane" is the first streaming series to win an animated program Emmy.

The League of Legends adaptation of Riot Games and Fortiche Production's Arcane became the first Netflix original series to win an Emmy Award for Best Animation program on Saturday and receive that honor. In fact, Arcane is the first streaming native program to top this category, and the first video game adaptation. (2 other Netflix original shows, BoJack Horseman and Bigmouth, had been nominated in previous years.

The superiority of Arcane animation at the Emmy Awards is not surprising. Just last month, the artists who worked on Arcane picked up an impressive hat-trick of juried Emmys: color script artist Anne-Laure To for the episode "Boy Savior"; art director Julien Georgel for the episode "Happy Progress Day"; and background designer for "When These Walls Come Rolling Down". Accepting the latest Emmy award on Saturday, Esoteric co-creator Christian Linke said:

Arcane was released by Netflix in 2021-11 in 2 parts and quickly became a viral sensation. The series won 3 of 9 Annie Awards last year.

In the short animation category, Netflix's Love, Death+Robots won for the first time in 4 years for the 3rd time. This year's award-winning short, "Zibaro," was directed by Alberto Mielgo, who won an Oscar earlier this year. Mielgo also won a personal Jury Emmy last month for his character design work "Givaro.""
