Disney shares details of "Strange World" and sneak Peak "Baymax."The 'Zootopia+'.
Ending a week of massive presentations from Annecy's major American animation studios, the Walt Disney Animation Studio showcase had flashy new footage from the strange world, Baymax. And Zootopia+.
The most exhilarating stretch of the presentation came with the first footage shown from the upcoming original feature film Strange World. The studio, led by director Don Hall and writer Quy Nguyen, is a journey to the center of the Earth and a mysterious island, referenced by producer Roy Conli, as it sees it return to the tone of early 20th-century pulp fiction like Jules Verne and Edgar Rice Burrows. Along with announcing other vocal casts including Dennis Quaid, Jaboukie Young–White, Gabrielle Union and Lucy Liu, as well as the already announced Jake Gyllenhaal, the first (still rough) footage of the film showed promise in the imagination of an unfamiliar life and a bristling underground world.
The visual development and animatics of some of the film's artwork, which revolved around three generations of fathers, sons and grandchildren, were used to establish the premise of the story. Gyllenhaal says the discovery of an energy power plant changes the future of his secluded mountaintop village Avalonia and causes a rift with his soon-to-be missing father Jaeger (Quaid).
Searcher's discovery accelerates Avalonia into becoming a technical haven, and 25 years later he meets his son Ethan (Young White). Become a farm job. The first full clip from the movie showed Ethan flirting with a boy named Diazo before his father bewildered him with Wing Manning's attempt. As Conri said, Searcher wants a better relationship with his son than what he had with his father. He not only "wants to be his sidekick," but "wants to leave his legacy, the farm, to his son," inadvertently continuing intergenerational anxiety.
Clip 2 of the Strange World showed some of the incidents inciting action for the rest of the film. Searcher goes on an expedition under the surface of the planet to discover why his crops are dying. Upon getting there, it is revealed that Ethan is housed in the aircraft used to move down, and the revelation appears interrupted by a quick, vertiginous sequence in which the crew is attacked by the terodactyl-like creatures and the subsequent crash splits them up and causes them to run aground.
The third clip of the day shows off the planet's strange, blobby ecosystem and the first look of the silent alien character Splat, an amorphous blue creature whose movements resemble a globe of paint, completely changing based on the circumstances that allow it to walk on any number of limbs. The legend of the Sprat and the three-legged dog (named after the studio's veteran storyboarder Bernie Matinson) showed perhaps the most distinctive acting, but the wild energy of Gyllenhaal's vocal performance was also fully drawn out in Searcher's flailing attempts at camaraderie.
In the first half of the presentation, Disney began with a tribute to one of its figures, Chief Creative Officer and Refrigeration and Refrigeration II Co-Director Jennifer Lee
During the event, Lee will be presented with a "contribution to the animation community" and a "contribution to the studio." He was awarded the Annecy Honorary Crystal Award for "fundamentally changing the world of Disney" and "extending the definition of who and what makes Disney projects."
After Lee's speech, the president of Walt Disney Animation Studio Clark Spencer took to the stage to introduce an episode of Baymax. The first series of Walt Disney Animation Studios, produced in-house, and fellow spin-off episodes of Zootopia+. Sadly, despite some cute visual gags, the preview footage was somewhat overwhelmed.
The first episode of Baymax.Released on Disney+ 6/29, it was almost no problem. About five minutes short follows the Marshmallow first responder Bot as he helps Aunt Cathy from Big Hero 6 with a sprained ankle before taking over to run her cafe against her will- ominously as he slinks around the corner "Everything."..Twist your head with a twist like an owl, promising to "be fine."
It was a bit more playful in the depiction of the anthology series Zootopia+ Scale, based around the robot's cute frame and some slapstick around the contrast between his ice-paced movements and the frantic requirements of the service industry.
Short, shared in Annecy titled "The Godfather of the Bride," turned on Mr. Big, a rodent parody of Bito Corleone, recalling sitting on his daughter's wedding day and getting a boat from "Old Country" to Zootopia. The story of immigrants is funny and cute, but a little betrayed by the lack of imagination of the title of the series, not to mention the decline in earnings in the same joke from the film.
While Disney's entire presentation didn't offer much that felt really new, the strange world was at least removed from the company's canons through the sensational pulp magazine aesthetics, pastel-colored pink landscapes, and the unique physics of that unknown land to make a striking impression. The difference between the two was shown.
Even with its crew recommending foreground a new voice in its movies, that feeling of wanting the animation studio to creep a little outside of its comfort zone felt particularly evident during the week when the studio showed off a new, endearing embrace of more hybridized, playful, comic characters. Beyond the last wish or Spider-Verse: Puss in boots. The strange world looks like a fun pulp, but it's also clearly present inside the long-established Disney House style.
