2018 Emmy Nominations Rick and Morty" is First Emmy Nominee

The nominations for the 70th annual Emmy Awards, presented by the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, have been announced.

The animated program category is not exactly varied, with Bob's Burgers, The Simpsons, and South Park nominated almost every year, including this year. In addition, these three have been nominated together in four of the last five years (2013, 2015, 2016, and 2017). Newcomers to the category are "Big Hero 6: The Series" and "Rick and Morty," both of which are nominated for the first time. (Rick & Morty is also nominated for the second time for "Virtual Rick-ality," a vr experience that competes for creative achievement in the Interactive Media/Scripted Program category.)

In the animated short program category, Cartoon Network received four of the five nominations ("Adventure Time," "Steven Universe," "Teen Titans Go! and We Bare Bears), while the fifth nomination went to its sister company, Adult Swim, for its Robot Chicken special "Freshly Baked: The Robot Chicken Santa Claus Pot Cookie Freakout Special."

The full list of nominees in the animation-related categories is below. For a complete list of nominees in all categories, see the Emmy Awards website.

Online voting for the final round begins on August 13. Winners will be determined by the Television Academy's more than 23,000 voting members. The Creative Arts Emmy Awards ceremony will be held in Los Angeles on September 8 and 9, followed by the remaining Emmys on September 17.
