'Deadpool' Animated Series to be FXX

FXX will produce an animated Deadpool series. The show will be produced by Donald Glover and Stephen Glover, the brothers of Atlanta, and will be aimed at adults.

FXX has been authorized to produce 10 episodes, which will debut in 2018. Unusually for an animated television series, no pilot will be produced and the series will go straight to series. Reportedly, FX and Disney-owned Marvel pitched the idea to Grovers.

The Glover brothers will executive produce and write the series and also serve as showrunners. Marvel's Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory will also serve as executive producers. The series is produced by Marvel Television in association with 21st Century Fox's FX Productions and Disney's cable division ABC Signature Studios.

"Donald Glover is an incredibly talented and versatile artist who will bring the untitled 'Marvel Deadpool' series to life with the same intense and singular vision as his blockbuster 'Atlanta,'" FX's original programming President, Nick Grad, said in a statement. With the success of 'Legion,' we look forward to partnering again with Marvel Television to create a bold, striking, and wholly original series."

According to The Hollywood Reporter, a writers' room for the animated series has already been established in London, where Donald Glover is filming Disney's Han Solo Star Wars spin-off.

FX Networks chief John Landgraf said last fall that the FX brand is "really aggressively" moving into adult animation; FX's largest original animated series is "Archer," and the brand has been experimenting with various animation formats over the past few years.
