Official Announcement: Nickelodeon is making an "Invader Zim" movie

Nickelodeon announced this morning its decision to produce the "Invader Jim" TV movie. [The 90-minute 2D film will follow the further adventures of Jim, an alien whose mission is to conquer Earth and enslave humans. Four key original voice actors from the early 2000s series will return: Richard Horvitz (Jim), Ricky Simons (GIR), Andy Berman (Dib), and Melissa Fern (Gaz). A release date has not yet been set.

"As a network with a 25-year history of producing groundbreaking and hilarious animation for children, 'Invader Zim' is one of our favorite films. It's been exciting to watch its popularity grow over the past decade through social media, consumer products, and Jim's comic books," said Chris Viscardi, SVP of Content Development and Production for Animation at Nickelodeon. What makes this announcement even more thrilling is the adventure Jonen has created for "Jim," which promises to be as wonderfully absurd and oddly heartfelt as any fan of the original series could hope for.

This 90-minute film is a perfect companion piece to Nick's 1990s properties "Hey Arnold! and "Rocco's Modern Life," following Nick's earlier announcement of a made-for-TV film reboot.

Cartoon Brew first reported the existence of the Invader Zim film project in November 2016. The story was denied by Invader Zim creator Jhonen Vasquez, who inaccurately dismissed Cartoon Brew's story as a "rumor." The network confirmed today that Vasquez will serve as executive producer.
