'Trollhunters' Leads All Animated Series with Seven Daytime Emmy Nominations

Trollhunters isn't just about trolls, it's also about awards.

The DreamWorks series, created by Guillermo del Toro, was nominated for seven Daytime Emmy Awards this week. It was nominated in major categories including writing, directing, and overall animated program (special class). Kelsey Grammer also received a performer nomination for his role as Blinky the Troll.

DreamWorks Animation Television received four more nominations for "All Hail King Julien" and three for "Dragons": two for "Dinotrux" and two for "The Adventures of Puss in Boots" and " Veggietales in the House" were nominated in one category each.

DreamWorks' 21 nominations were the most of any animation studio, accounting for 21 of Netflix's 36 nominations; the second most nominated animated show was also from Netflix: JibJabs' "Ask the Storybots" received six nominations. Other high scoring animated programs: the Australian-Canadian animated series "Beat Bugs" on Netflix in the US (5 nominations), Amazon's "Lost in Oz: Extended Adventure" (5 nominations), Amazon's Christmas special "The Snowy Day" (5 nominations), Disney XD's "Lego Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures" (4 nominations) and Amazon's "Tumble Leaf" (4 nominations).

The Emmys also announced the six winners of the Individual Achievement in Animation Award, a juried award determined by a panel of qualified judges from the animation industry.

The awards are presented to artists working in various technical areas of animation production, including character design, storyboarding, art direction/production design, background design, layout, color, and character animation. Entries must be one story.

The 44th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards ceremony will be held on Sunday, April 30 at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium. The Daytime Creative Arts Emmy Awards, where the Individual Achievement Award in the animation category will be presented, will be held on Friday, April 28 at the same location.
