Emmy Awards Announces 2016 Animation Jury Award Winners

The Television Academy has announced the winners in the animation category for the 68th annual Emmy Awards, which will be presented this Sunday, September 11.

The winners in the category honoring outstanding individual achievement in animation are:

Tsirgiotis and Herpich, who also won last year: Tsirgiotis as background layout designer for the mini-series "Over the Garden Wall"; Herpich for as a storyboard artist for the "Adventure Time" episode "Walnuts and Rain."

The jury categories are evaluated by a peer group of experts. Unlike the other Emmy Awards animation categories, there are no nominations; instead, there is a one-step evaluation and voting process. According to the organization,

the deliberations include an open discussion of each entrant's film and a thorough review of whether or not it should win an Emmy. After each deliberation, the jury will consider the question, "Does this work deserve an Emmy - for or against?" Only those works approved unanimously will receive the award.

Cartoon Brew will soon publish an article by Emmy winner Jason Carpenter about his work on He Named Me Malala.
