-Little Nicholas," "Dozens of North," "Amok" and "My Year of Dicks" won top prizes at the 2022 Annecy Film Festival.

Annecy joined the French animation film festival this year with a record 13,248 visitors (8% more than the 2019 record).

During Saturday night's delightful closing ceremony, festival legend Guillermo del Toro delighted attendees with a video announcement that Mexico would be proud to be Annecy in 2023. Part of the audience's enthusiasm for this news must have been due to the possibility of the filmmaker himself coming to the festival next year. It was also announced that Jorge Gutierrez, creator of "Maya and the Three," "Book of Life," and "El Tigre" and a fan of Annecy, will design the 2023 festival poster.

Following its premiere at the Cannes Film Festival last month, "Little Nicholas - Happy as Can Be" won the Annecy Crystal Award for Best Feature Film, and was recognized at the festival by Benjamin Masuble, editor of I Lost My Body and Directed by Amandine Fredon, animator of "A Cat in Paris," the film is an adaptation of the popular children's book series by René Goscinny, in a "Chinese ink animation" style inspired by the look and feel of the original illustrations of the books by Jean-Jacques Sampe. The film is animated in a "Chinese ink animation" style inspired by the look and feel of the original picture books by Jean-Jacques Sampe.

The Jury Prize for Best Feature Film and the Gan Foundation Prize for Distribution went to "No Dogs or Italians Allowed" by filmmaker Alain Uguette ("Jasmine").

This year's feature competition lineup was one of the best we have seen at Annecy, or any other animation festival, and the jury seemed to agree, with Signe Beaumane's My Love for Marriage and Pierre Fordes' Blind Willow, Sleeping Woman" were awarded further special prizes.

In the contrarian lineup, Koji Yamamura's "Dozens of North" won the top prize.

Annecy's short film lineup was similarly packed, but Barash Turai's "Amok," a frenetic, neon-lit dream of a film, won the Cristal Award. The film qualified for the Academy Awards.

In the Television competition, Sara Gunnarsdottir's "My Year of Dicks" took top honors.
