Dolby x Moonbot collaboration "Escape" is now online

After premiering at last weekend's Tribeca Film Festival, Dolby Laboratories has released a new advertising short film, "Escape," on the Internet.

Watch it below:

Produced at Moonbot Studios, the short was directed by Limbert Fabian and Brandon Oldenburg, heads of the newly formed Dallas studio Flight School ( Oldenburg previously directed the short "Silent" for Dolby). Vince Volon, Vice President and Executive Creative Director of Dolby Laboratories and executive producer of the film, said, "This film is a film poem about the power of invention to change the world and the evolution of film technology from the silent film era to the present day, as the main character It is a fitting sequel to 'Silent,' in which the protagonist experiences the evolution of film technology from the silent film era to the present day," he said. Vince Vollon, Executive Producer and Vice President and Executive Creative Director of Dolby Laboratories, said, "We are thrilled to inspire consumers, filmmakers and partners to celebrate the powerful storytelling potential of art and science when they come together." We've invested in original branded content to celebrate the powerful storytelling potential when art and science come together.

Produced as a showcase for Dolby technology, "Escape" features the original song "Magic Me," composed and performed by Imogen Heap, who worked with sound designer Nick Ryan to create a Dolby Atmos surround sound technology.

Filmmakers Fabian and Oldenburg visually optimized the film for Dolby Vision, a projection system with a wider dynamic range of brightness and contrast than traditional digital projection. We are told that the deep blacks used for the monster have an even stronger effect when viewed in a cinema equipped with Dolby Vision.

Another unique aspect of this advertising film is the mix of CG animation and stop-motion sets. Below you can see behind-the-scenes shots of the 30 x 40-foot set model created for the planetary landscape. For a behind-the-scenes look at the film, check out the making of the film on Dolby's website.
