A contemplative and mystical film by Tatsuhiro Ariyoshi
Born in 1984 in Aichi Prefecture, Japan. Tokyo-based independent animator, Tatsuhiro graduated from Musashino Art University's Department of Imaging Arts and Sciences in 2009, and completed his graduate studies at Tokyo University of the Arts' Graduate School of Film and New Media, majoring in animation.
I met Tatsuhiro last year at the Tokyo University of the Arts Geidai Animation Exhibition. His work chilled me to the bone. It is very rare to see animation with such pure and original expression, such outstanding technical talent, and such concentration. His work borders on daily contemplation, and he approaches the most complex and ill-defined subjects with the utmost sincerity.
His work focuses on revealing the hidden movement in our world and in the foundations within us; in From A Stone, he excavates the inert fluid energy trapped within the hard, cold exterior of a stone. The individual marks in his drawings swim together like a school of sparkling fish in an abyss, constantly reconstructing the larger mass.
