(NSFW) "Blood Juice Juice" by Sawako Kabuki
"Anal Juke," a short film directed by Sawako Kabuki, has been attracting attention at film festivals, having screened in Annecy and Ottawa this year. Kabuki made this film at Tokyo's Tama Art University with music by Seinosuke Saeki (click here for the high-quality soundtrack). Student filmmakers (and even professional filmmakers) often try to be self-consciously weird, cobbling together random ideas and hoping for some kind of outrageous effect, but what about Japanese filmmakers? This film is not needlessly bizarre, and somehow makes perfect sense.
Kabuki explains:
After breaking up with an ex-boyfriend, I was heartbroken and had to think of a theme for my next animated film. Just then I had a dream about that ex-boyfriend. This animated film is based on that dream. on March 11, 2011, Japan was hit by a series of major earthquakes and aftershocks. And not only the earthquake, but also how to deal with the nuclear power plant has become one of the hottest issues in the country. I think that dream was a mixture of such chaos in Japan and my sad melancholy. So I "remixed" what was in my head. By the way, he liked enemas. So in this song, the word "butt" and related words are all over the place. I decided to use this song because these are all linked to my memories of him. In that dream, my ex-boyfriend's face was not clear, so I drew his face exactly like an "ass" in this animation.
If there is one lesson to be learned from this short story, it is don't be Kabuki Sawako's ex-boyfriend.
