2019 Cesar Awards: watch the trailers for the 12 nominated films

The César Awards, France's top film prize, has announced its short list of 12 French films in contention for the 2019 Best Animated Short Film award.

"Rough House" (a French co-production), winner of the BAFTA; "This Wonderful Cake!", winner of the Grand Prix Clermont-Ferrand and "Mémorable," winner of the Annecy Crystal, as well as festival favorites "Egg," "Guaxama," "The Night of the Plastic Bags," and "I'm Going Out for Cigarettes" (pictured above), among many other topical films on the short list. (pictured above), making it an unusually competitive year.

The selection was made by the 20 members of the Animation Committee of the French Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Technology. Four of these films will be announced as nominees on Wednesday, January 29, 2020.

Prior to that announcement, the 12 short films will be made available on DVD, which each voting member of the Academy will receive in mid-December. Academy voters will also be able to view the films at a theatrical screening in Paris on Saturday, December 7.
