Framestore VFX Supervisor Andy Kind and Animation Supervisor Pablo Grillo Return for "Paddington 3" - Exclusive

Britain's favorite CG bear returns for a transatlantic adventure in Peru's Paddington Framestore has confirmed exclusively to Cartoon Brew that VFX supervisor Andy Kind and animation supervisor Pablo Grillo will return for the third installment of the franchise Cartoon Brew exclusively confirmed to Cartoon Brew that.

For the first two films, Kind and Grillo led a team of VFX and animation experts to transform a marmalade-obsessed bear into an award-winning protagonist that grossed nearly $500 million at the global box office. Critical success has been similar, with the first two films boasting 97% and 99% critical ratings on Rotten Tomatoes,

respectively.

Somewhat surprisingly, relative newcomer Dougal Wilson makes his feature directorial debut with Paddington in Peru. He replaces Paul King, the director of the first two films, who has had success directing commercials and music videos. King is currently busy directing the prequel "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," but will remain involved with the "Paddington" franchise, including executive producing the new film.

Studiocanal and Heyday Films, producers of the first two films, have re-teamed for "Paddington in Peru," which will be fully financed by Studiocanal. The screenplay is by Mark Burton, John Foster, and James Lamont, with Burton, King, and Simon Farnaby co-writing. Principal photography will begin in 2023 and will be shot on location in London and Peru.

"As a huge fan of the first two films, I'm very excited (and a little intimidated) to continue the Paddington story," Wilson said in a Studiocanal release.

"It's a big responsibility, but I'm committed to making a third film that honors the love so many people have for this special bear."

King added, "After 10 years of working on the Paddington films, I care absurdly about this little bear. I am delighted that Dougal will have his paws on him as he embarks on his third big screen adventure. Dougal's work is funny, beautiful, heartfelt, imaginative, and utterly original. Aunt Lucy once asked us to 'take care of this bear. Dougal will do so admirably.'"

On Thursday, Framestore will host a recruitment talk at the Annecy Festival. There, Brad Silby IA (Head of Animation), Cynthia Crimmins (Head of Department), Quentin Soule (Lead Visualization Artist), and Ian Landman, Head of Recruitment from Framestore's London office, will join Vancouver Daniel Mizuguchi, Head of Animation, will join them to meet with professionals and discuss how the studio is working to push the boundaries of what is considered possible in the animation world.

In addition to the Paddington films, Framestore has done animation and VFX for blockbusters such as Tim Burton's "Dumbo," "Pokemon Detective Pikachu," "Gravity," and "Blade Runner 2049."
