John Dilworth filming the making of his new short film "Howl If You Love Me".

Academy Award-nominated filmmaker and animator John Dilworth, best known for his Cartoon Network series "Courage the Cowardly Dog," is documenting the process of making his new short, independently produced animation "Howl If You Love Me."

Dilworth started a detailed diary on Youtube in March, which has already reached its 28th edition.

Viewers can watch him draw on paper using a lightbox and hear him explain step-by-step how the production progresses from script and storyboard to layout and animation. He offers unique insight into the creative process of artists who regularly move between the worlds of commercial production and independent filmmaking.

Howl If You Love Me, as Dilworth describes it, is a romantic horror comedy about Jim, whose girlfriend Jane is a werewolf. Drama emerges when Jane is in danger and Jim is faced with a life-changing decision.

"I have long loved showing and sharing what I have learned and thought about animation and the animated life I live," Dilworth said of his decision to bring outsiders into his process through these videos, told Cartoon Brew in an email. 'It excites me. By sharing one of my favorite things, I'm building a relationship with the consciousness of the world"

. [After spending three years working on his last book, Goose in High Heels, Dilworth wanted to work on paper again. I wanted to give my body and perhaps my soul a rest and return to the "organic" tools of paper and pencil. Besides, I love that smell and the graphite smudges on my fingers from using a pencil! Oh, that smell!"

Dilworth intends to document his daily production experience until completion in order to share his discoveries and failures with those interested in his work. No one knows what will happen," he said. Completing a short film is a long journey. You might have a heart attack in between," he says.

The animator believes that technology should serve humanity, not dominate it, and this comprehensive video journal is his way of using modern tools to communicate his interests, which he hopes will inspire others.

Dilworth works independently and used his own resources to produce this short film. To that end, he is accepting donations toward the completion of the film through his website StretchFilms.com.
