Adult Swim Announces First Spanish Series "Women in Shoulder Pads"

Adult Swim has released its first Spanish-language series, "Women in Shoulder Pads," featuring wealthy Spanish women living in Ecuador.

The stop-motion series will be created by Gonzalo Cordova (writer of Tuca & Bertie and Adam Ruins Everything) and produced by Mexico City-based studio Cinema Fantasma. The studio has a strong track record with Warner Bros. Discovery and has produced "Rick & Morty" and "Mr. Pickles" IDs. Cinema Fantasma also produced the Latin American series "Frankelda's Book of Spooks" for HBO Max.

Plot details are still scarce, but according to Adult Swim, the show will follow the main character as she navigates "the complex world of love, family, commercials, and cuisines (South American guinea pigs). The show's voice actors are all Spanish-speaking women, and each 15-minute episode is subtitled in English.

Adult Swim President Michael Uwelin stated in the release:

We've all seen millions of Spanish-language stop-motion shows centered on the plight of guinea pigs and featuring an all-female cast, but Gonzalo's unique voice and Cinema Fantasma's visually rich stop-motion meant we couldn't miss Women in Shoulder Pads.

At the New York Comic-Con panel, Adult Swim also announced that it had ordered a third season of its popular animated comedy series "Yolo: Rainbow Trinity"; co-creator of "Smiling Friends," Michael Cusack, the series follows two best friends in Australia who get caught up in all kinds of ridiculous scenarios. Season 2 (trailer below) debuted this past January to ratings that ranked it "#2 in its time slot in all key cable TV demographics," according to Adult Swim.
