Flora Anna Buda -27-" Wins Live Action Competition and Palme d'Or for Best Short Film at Cannes

The 2023 Cannes Film Festival closed over the weekend, with Flora Anna Buda's "27" winning the Palme d'Or in the short film category. This is the first time an animated short film has won the award since "Waves '98" in 2015.

We spoke with Anna Buda before Cannes, where the trailer for 27 was released. If I were to direct a pornographic film, how could I cheat a little bit of social sensitivity in the plot ...... I was thinking about it."

In 27 years, the film's protagonist, Alice, celebrates her 27th birthday. An adult by all accounts, she lives with her parents and her nosy little brother, which makes her feel a little suffocated. Feeling stuck, she regularly disappears into her dreams to escape her boring routine. After a psychedelic party on a factory rooftop, she gets drunk and is involved in a motorcycle wreck. Buda is an animation filmmaker who graduated from the prestigious Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design (MOME) in Budapest. This is Anna Buda's second impressive short film at major film festivals. Her previous film, Entropia, won the Teddy Award for best short film at the Berlin International Film Festival 2019, was nominated for the Golden Bear Award, and later won a special award at GLAS in 2020.
