Disney's "Moon Girl And Devil Dinosaur" and Netflix's "Spirit Rangers" Nominated for Emmy Awards in Children and Families

The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) has announced the nominees for the second annual Children's and Family Emmy Awards, the largest competition of the organization's governing Emmy Awards. Many of the ceremony's honors were previously awarded as part of the Daytime Emmy Awards.

Nominations for the Interactive Media, Individual Achievement, and Public Service Initiative categories will be announced later this month. A date for this year's awards ceremony has not yet been announced; NATAS is apparently waiting for the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike to be over.

Disney leads with 42 nominations from this year's animation category. Next are Netflix with 33 nominations, Nickelodeon with 15, Apple with 11, and Max (HBO Max) with 7. Notably, Youtube's productions received 5 nominations this year, putting the platform on par with PBS, the most nominated free-to-air broadcaster.

Disney's "Moon Girl" and "Devil Dinosaur" received eight nominations, the most of any animated film this year; Netflix's hybrid series "Lost Ollie" had 10 total nominations, most of them in the live action category. Netflix's "Spirit Rangers" was the most recognized early childhood series with seven animated nominations.

Rachel Schwartz, director of the Daytime and Children & Family Emmy Awards, said in a release: [In developing and nurturing new categories, particularly those dedicated to puppetry.

Shows produced for Children & Families viewing have a long history of leading innovation and storytelling. This year, in particular, is one in which artists are fighting to be recognized for their true worth, and it is more important than ever to celebrate the excellence of their talents and accomplishments.
