Netflix Releases VFX-heavy Trailer for Live-Action "Avatar: The Last Airbender" Series
Netflix has released the first trailer for its highly anticipated live-action remake of "Avatar: The Last Airbender," which will debut on streaming February 22.
Live-action adaptations of animated films have a mixed history with fans and critics, and few have been as poorly received as M. Night Shyamalan's 2010 film The Last Airbender. The film's audience score, based on ratings from more than 250,000 viewers tracked by Rotten Tomatoes, is 30%. Critics rated it even worse, with 192 reviews resulting in a mere 5%.
ATLA fans have reason to be optimistic and reason to fear this time around. Netflix recently adapted "One Piece" into a blockbuster movie. Nevertheless, Netflix's live-action adaptation of the "Cowboy Bebop" series was poorly received, failed to gain viewers, and was canceled after its first season.
