Disney Releases Teaser for "Pinocchio," a Hybrid of Animation and Live Action

Disney has released the first teaser trailer for Robert Zemeckis' hybrid version of Pinocchio.

Zemeckis is no stranger to animated/live-action hybrids. The trailer shows little in the way of full sets and relies heavily on virtual production techniques, as in Disney's recent remakes of "The Jungle Book" and "The Lion King." Only Tom Hanks and a few characters (Blue Fairy, Stromboli) appear to be the mass of human flesh in the teaser.

"Pinocchio" will be available for streaming on Disney+ beginning September 8 on what Disney has dubbed "Disney+ Day," which takes place before the D23 Expo, when the streaming platform will be offering a preview of upcoming content from Disney's major brands. Several special programs will be held to preview content.

Actors and dubbed cast members include: Tom Hanks (Zeppetto), Benjamin Evan Ainsworth (Pinocchio), Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Jiminy Cricket), Cynthia Erivo (Blue Fairy), Keegan-Michael Key (" Honest" John), Lorraine Bracco (Sophia the Seagull), Luke Evans (Coachman), Kiyanne Ramaya (Fabiana and Sabina the Marionette), Giuseppe Battiston (Senor Stromboli), and Lewin Lloyd (Lampy). [Zemeckis, Derek Hogue, Andrew Miano, Chris Weitz, and Paul Weitz are producers; Jackie Levine, Jack Rapke, Alexandra Darbyshire, and Jeremy Johns are executive producers.

A complete list of VFX and animation service providers is not yet available, but we believe the following studios are involved in the production: DNEG, MPC, Halon Entertainment, Clear Angle Studios, Dimension Studios.

Disney also released a new poster for the feature.
