Netflix Acquires Global Streaming Rights to Studio Ghibli's Library
Beginning February 1, Netflix will offer 21 Studio Ghibli films on its streaming service. However, the service will not be available in the U.S., Canada, or Japan. In the U.S., HBO Max will be the home for Ghibli films when the service launches in spring 2020.
However, Netflix subscribers in Asia Pacific, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and Latin America will have access to the Ghibli library with subtitles in 28 languages and dubbing in up to 20 languages. The deal was struck with Wild Bunch International, a Franco-German distributor of Ghibli films worldwide. [Toshio Suzuki, producer of Studio Ghibli, said in a statement, "In this day and age, there are many wonderful ways for a film to reach its audience. Toshio Suzuki, producer of Studio Ghibli, released a statement saying, "We have listened to our fans and decided to stream our film catalog.
