Uncle's grandpa teaches Koreans how to speak English.

Turner Asia Pacific today announced that it will partner with Korean mobile product developer Qualson to launch a new app that uses Cartoon Network shows and characters to teach English to users of different ages.

The app features characters from Cartoon Network shows like Uncle Grandpa, We Naked Bear, Powerpuff Girls, Adventure Time, the Amazing World of Gumball, and regular shows. It is scheduled to launch in South Korea in 10 months, and plans to expand in other Asian markets such as Japan, Taiwan and Southeast Asia in the future.

Qualson has exploded in popularity this year and is currently no.It is the publisher of Super Fan, an English education app that has been ranked as an educational app of 1. The new Cartoon Network app uses a subscription model and is intended for "both children and adults who want to improve their fluency in both listening and speaking English.""

"We are pleased to partner with Qualson to allow more Koreans and Cartoon network fans to watch their favorite shows and improve their English at the same time," said Ron Lee, General Manager of Turner Korea. "We believe that learning is always more effective when it's fun."

Other American companies will expand their brands in Asia through programs that use their characters to teach English. The most notable example is Disney, which runs the controversial Disney English in China, an immersive English school that uses Disney characters targeted at children as young as 2 years old.
