All Canadian Screen Awards 2020 Animation Nominees
The Academy of Canadian Cinema & Television has announced the nominations for the 2020 Canadian Screen Awards, which celebrate Canadian work and artists in film, television and digital media.
The awards are comprised of over 100 categories, only a handful of which are for animation. The category for animated short films includes two films from the National Film Board of Canada (NFB): Regina Pessoa's "Uncle Thomas: Accounting for the Days" and Chris Dainty's "Shannon Amen" The Animated Feature Film category will be held at the same time as the Animated Feature Film category. So far, there is no animated feature film category.
The Comedy Network's "Corner Gas Animated" won Best Screenplay at last year's awards and is nominated in six categories. TVOKids' "PAW Patrol," which won three awards last year, follows with four nominations. [In particular, the NFB's "Gymnasia," from the Oscar-nominated directors of Madame Tutli-Putli, is nominated in the Best Immersive Experience (Fiction) category. Elsewhere, the live-action "The Twentieth Century," the feature debut of acclaimed experimental animator Matthew Rankin, is nominated in eight categories.
The awards will be presented over seven days during Canadian Screen Week in Toronto, Canada (March 23-29, 2019). This is the eighth time the Canadian Screen Awards have been presented, but the honor dates back to 1949 and was previously known as the Canadian Film Awards or the Genie Awards.
