Borrowed Time" Wins Best in Show at SIGGRAPH 2016

SIGGRAPH, the world's largest annual event for computer graphics and interactive technology, today announced the winners of its 43rd annual Computer Animation Festival. [SIGGRAPH's award makes the film eligible for consideration for an Academy Award, but the film has previously won Academy Awards at the St. Louis and Nashville festivals, which were held earlier in the year.

Five years in the making, "Borrowed Time" tells the story of a weathered sheriff struggling with the mistakes of his past. The film features music by Gustavo Santaolalla ("Brokeback Mountain," "Babel").

SIGGRAPH honored two other films. The Jury Prize went to Cosmos Laundromat by Mathieu Auvray, produced at the Blender Institute:

The Student Project Prize went to Mengjung Yang, Gaetan and Benjamin Lebourgeois at Supinfocom, Clarie Vandermeersch, and Alendandre Veaux for their French film Crabe-Phare:

The 2016 Computer Animation Festival will consist of two parts: the Electronic Theater and Daytime Selects. It will be held in two parts. The Electronic Theater, which will be held in the evening, will feature narrative short films, primarily from around the world:
