GLAS Animation Festival Kicks Off with Full Competition and Stellar Lineup of Speakers

Cyric Harris, Cristóbal León, Joaquín Cochinha, Tomek Popacul, Lucrece Andreae, and Yu Murata will be guest speakers at the 2022 GLAS Animation Festival, which runs April 6-10.

Now in its seventh year, the festival boasts an impressive lineup of speakers, retrospectives, and short films that will be streamed on the event's website; after dropping the in-person event two years ago and going digital last year, the 2022 is also fully online.

GLAS has a history of featuring big-name talent for its retrospectives and Q&As, and this year will be no exception. British surrealist animator Cyrique Harris, Chile's Cristobal León and Joaquin Cochinha ("La Casa Lobo," "Los Huesos"), Lucrece Andreae ("Grandpa Walrus"), Tomek Popacl ("Acid Rain"), Murata Yu ("OM Rider," "Monster Films"), and others will take the stage. The GLAS Q&A will be broadcast over the next few days, each available for streaming worldwide until May 1.

This year's Official Selection includes 32 short films from around the world. The films will be divided into five 65-minute collections, each with a one-hour Q&A. GLAS will also host two international showcases, a U.S. competition and a family competition, each with its own moderator and Q&A.

Each section can be streamed by the public for US$8, but those wishing to watch outside the US should read the bylaws or obtain an excellent vpn before ordering.

In addition to the short film section, this year's program will also feature Justin Tomchak's feature film "Interface." Tomchak, known online as "umami," created "Interface" by splicing together 90 minutes of popular shorts from Youtube.

GLAS will also host the premiere of the Hellavision Television Network Episode: a digital "face-to-face" screening via vr chat that will also be streamed live on Twitch on April 9 at 7pm PST. Other important events at this year's festival include career development presentations on finding a job in the industry and pitching your project.

The full program for the 2022 GLAS Animation Festival is available on the festival website.
