Adult Swim and Production I.G. Premiere Teaser for "FLCL" Sequel

Last Sunday at Anime Expo in Los Angeles, Production I.G and Adult Swim premiered the FLCL revival and released this short teaser:

They confirmed that two new seasons of the series, each consisting of six episodes, will air in 2018 on will begin airing in the Toonami block in.

Kazuya Tsurumaki, director of the original six-episode OVA series released in 2000, is involved as supervisor for the new episodes. Also returning are FLCL's original character designer, Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, and the band The Pillows, who will write original music for the new episodes. Animation producer Production I.G was one of the two companies that produced the first series, along with Gainax.

Katsuyuki Motohiro ("Psycho-Pass") will serve as chief director, while screenwriter Hideto Iwai ("Last Dinner"), character designer Chikashi Kubota, and mechanical designer Kiyotaka Oshiyama have also been announced. [As is often the case with Japanese productions, the names of character designers and animation directors have never appeared in trailers in the entire history of American animation. Why don't American producers pay tribute to these behind-the-scenes talents and honor the people who make these projects great - even if we already know the answer, these questions need to be asked.

On air, Adult Swim will air dubbed episodes of the new FLCL, while streaming platforms will offer subtitled versions. In Japan, Toho will distribute the film.

The new episodes were originally announced last year; FLCL tells the story of 12-year-old Naota Nantaba, whose life is turned upside down after he is run over by a strange Vespa-riding girl, Haruko Haruhara. Meanwhile, a war between two organizations known as Medical Mechanica and Fraternity rages across the galaxy. One day, a new teacher named Haruko arrives at school, a teenage girl named Hidomi, who thought there was nothing surprising about her ordinary life.
