Netflix Acquires Streaming Rights to First Season of "Scavengers Reign"

In a surprise development, Netflix has acquired the streaming rights to the first season of the Max sci-fi thriller "Scavengers Reign."

As first reported by Variety, the series will begin streaming on Netflix on May 31. The deal is non-exclusive, and the series will continue to be available on Max.

Max has not been renewed for a second season, but Netflix may commission a second season. This decision will be made after Netflix evaluates the audience for the licensed first season.

Scavengers Reign is co-produced and executive produced by Joe Bennett and Charles Huttner and is an adaptation of their 2016 short film Scavengers. The pair served as executive producers on the series with Green Street Pictures colleagues and co-producers Sean Buckeye and James Merrill. Chris Prynoski served as executive producer for Titmouse, which provided the animation.

The series follows the surviving crew of a damaged deep space freighter stranded on a beautiful but unforgiving planet. As the small group uncovers the true nature of the planet, they must do everything in their power to survive long enough to escape or be rescued.Cartoon Brew named the 12-episode first season to its "10 Outstanding Animated Series That Defined the Year 2023"
