China's Tencent Video Reaches Global Audience with Teen/YA Animated Series

Tencent Video, one of China's most popular streaming platforms with 117 million subscribers, is looking for partners to bring its anime series to a global audience.

The streaming platform has built a significant portfolio of teen and YA animated content in recent years, consisting of original titles and adaptations of web novels and video games. These shows, available on Tencent's Cartoon Channel, are the number one platform for teen and YA animation in China, with over 200 million viewers, according to streaming distributor data.

The service sees animation as a "huge" growth opportunity, especially if it can secure global licensing deals that expand its programming outside China.

Qing Fan, producer of animation and head of content partnerships at Tencent Video, said in a statement:

In addition to commissioning productions from local animation studios in China, Tencent is also partnering and investing with producers in Europe and Japan.
