Anexy: Fox Sneak Peek at New Primetime Comedy "Universal Basic Guys" on Wednesday
Fox will unveil the new animated satire "Universal Basic Guys" on Wednesday in Annecy. The network has great faith in the series and has already renewed its contract for a second season before it launches in the prime time slot after "The Simpsons" this fall.
"Universal Basic Guys" features Mark and Hank Hoagies, blue-collar brothers living in South Jersey, who lose their jobs due to automation and are given $3,000 a month through a new basic income program. They use their free time and free money to find purpose in a world that no longer needs them.
The series is co-produced by Fox's Bento Box Entertainment and Sony Pictures Television.
It is co-produced by brothers Adam and Craig Malamudt, who created, wrote, animated, and voice-acted the popular animated sports web series "Bleacher Report," including "Game of Zones" and "Champions." This will be the first network project for the self-taught animation brothers, but it will most likely not be their last, as they recently signed a comprehensive deal with Sony Picture Television to develop a new animated series.
Wednesday's screening in Annecy will take place at 12:30 p.m. at the Salle de l'Europe in the Imperial Palace.
After the screening, the Malamut brothers will talk about the new show, and Dana Tafoya-Cameron (Head of Production, Bento Box), Daniel Weidenfeld (Senior VP, Head of Development, Bento Box) and Frank Ochoa (Sony Pictures Television, Adult Animation VP) will participate in the project.
