UPDATE: All of the animated short films nominated for the 2019 Academy Awards are now online.

UPDATE - January 3, 2019: This article has been updated to reflect that all of the animated shorts are now online. Some are only available for a limited time, so take a look while you can.

DreamWorks Animation released two new animated shorts, "Bilby" and "Bird Karma," online this morning for a limited time.

With the online release of these two films, more than half of the 10 animated Oscar nominees are now available online.

The availability of these films represents a strategic shift in recent years, when nominated films were almost always kept offline after they were announced. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, in particular, had awarded prizes to films that almost no one had ever seen.

Now, by putting their films online, filmmakers have the opportunity to generate awareness and discussion about their work, while the Academy benefits from having a section where people are interested in the nominated films and support specific films.

And best of all, you get to see the films. Check out all the films below. We will update this article when other filmmakers decide to put their films online.
