Chris Sanders admits to making a “Wild Robot” sequel.

DreamWorks Animation is developing a sequel to its latest film, “Wild Robot.” The news was revealed this morning by the film's director and writer, Chris Sanders, in an interview at Deadline's “Contenders” event in London.

“100% yes, there are definitely plans for a second film,” Sanders said in his speech.

It is unknown to what extent Director Sanders will be involved in the sequel. His previous three films, “Lilo and Stitch,” “How to Train Your Dragon,” and “The Cruise,” have each spawned at least one sequel, but none have been directed by Sanders.

“Wild Robot” is based on an illustrated novel by Peter Brown. There are two other films in Brown's series: “Wild Robot Escapes” and “Wild Robot Defends,” which are established as the source material for subsequent films in the series.

Universal released The Wild Robot last month, and the $78 million production continues to perform well in its third weekend. Currently, the film is projected to gross around $13.8 million in its third week, which would put it over $84 million at the domestic box office. Internationally, the film has grossed an additional $37 million to date.
