The new trailer for "Boss Baby: Family Business" is definitely something

Dreamworks Animation's The Boss Baby opened in March 2017 to strong box office, overcoming middling reviews and the complications of its plot about a corporate executive masquerading as an infant. Accidental echoes of the newly inaugurated Donald Trump may have helped.

It turns out that Trump's presidency will be bookended by installments in the franchise. The sequel, The Boss Baby: Family Business, is due out on March 26, 2021. Its story looks even more outlandish than the last one: there's a new pseudo-baby, an evil tyrant, a dash of time travel, an obligatory reference to “boomers,” and ninjas. Watch the trailer and read the synopsis below:

Family Business was first announced in May 2017, a couple of months after The Boss Baby launched. Based on a children's book by Marla Frazee, the original film went on to gross $528 million worldwide and pick up an Oscar nomination, to the surprise of some. A Netflix spin-off series, The Boss Baby: Back in Business, followed in 2018.

Tom McGrath, Dreamworks' most prolific director, returns to helm the sequel; this is the sixth feature he has directed at the studio (following the Madagascar trilogy, Megamind, and The Boss Baby). The producer is Jeff Hermann, who developed the Dreamworks Shorts program and produced the resulting short films. He was a co-producer on Kung Fu Panda 3, but Family Business marks his first time as a fully-fledged producer on a feature.

Alec Baldwin returns to voice Ted. He is joined by cast members old and new, including Jeff Goldblum, Ariana Greenblatt, Jimmy Kimmel, Lisa Kudrow, Eva Longoria, James Marsden, and Amy Sedaris.

For now, Universal is still committing to a theatrical release on March 26 - the date hasn't changed since the film was first announced.
