Netflix announced the release of Sony Picture Animation's "Mitchell vs.The Machine Trailer released
Sony Pictures Animation's The Mitchells vs. The Machines has released a trailer under its new distributor Netflix. It will launch on the streaming platform on April 30.
When it was set for theatrical release via Sony's Columbia Pictures, the film was known as Connected, but Netflix opted to revert back to the working title. Like many films right now, the future had seemed uncertain for The Mitchells vs. The Machines due to theaters remaining closed, but the Netflix acquisition allowed Sony, who lack their own major streaming platform, to rehome the film.
The film is from first-time feature director Mike Rianda, who wrote and directed on Gravity Falls. He scripted Mitchells with another Gravity Falls vet Jeff Rowe, who is also the co-director of the film.
The new trailer, which runs a little longer than the initial trailer that Sony released a year ago, shifts more of the focus on the overarching story of the robot apocalypse, while still centering around the dysfunctional family in the thick of it.
Phil Lord and Chris Miller are producing, continuing their creative partnership with Sony Pictures Animation, which includes writing and directing 2009's Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, executive producing its 2013 sequel, and producing 2019's Oscar-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. Kurt Albrecht is also producing, and Will Allegra and Louis Koo Tin-Lok are executive producing.
Sony Pictures Imageworks in Vancouver, Canada produced the animation for the film.
