At the 2022 Quirino Awards, Stop・motion rules as the top candidates for "Bestia", "Bob Spitt" and "Frankelda".

The Ibero-American Animation Quirino Awards announced the candidates for this year's 5th edition, which honors the best animations from Spain, Portugal and Latin America.

Returning to the home of the Canary Islands in Tenerife, Quirinos will be held over May 12-14, inviting guests from both sides of the Atlantic to attend. Quirinos hosts not only a simple award ceremony, but also a co-production forum, an important event in the annual animation calendar for Iberoamerica projects looking for partners.

This year, 18 qualifying animation works were submitted from 258 participating countries of the organization. Brazil and Mexico, the bases of traditional animation, are leading the way with six nominations that coincide with Chile, which is on the rise in the animation sector in the region. Spain followed with its own 5 nominations, Argentina and Peru received 3 each, Colombia and Uruguay received 2, and Ecuador, Portugal, the Dominican Republic and Venezuela received 1 each.

In 2022, the Oscar・nominated short "Bestia," directed by Hugo Kovalbias and Bob Spitt from Chile, led the pack with 4 nominations each, with Brazilian Koala films and César Cabral's "We Don't Like". It's a great place to start. The 1st season of Frankelda's "Book of Spooks" won 3 nominations for Cinema Fantasma, a Mexican producer, and the Peruvian box office hit Ainbo Spirit of The Amazon, which grossed nearly11000 million worldwide, according to Box office Mojo, with 2 nominations.
