A24 to Launch Online Pilot "Hazbin Hotel" Series

A24, the independent distribution and production company known for art-house hits such as "Uncut Gem," "Lady Bird" and "Moonlight," announced this afternoon that it will produce a series based on the online pilot "Hazbin Hotel."

Hazbin Hotel creator Vivian Medrano released the pilot on her Youtube channel last October, and it has since been viewed over 41 million times. She spoke last year about Cartoon Brew and how she built her online Youtube presence Vivziepop, which now has over 3.6 million channel subscribers.

The synopsis for the adult comedy "The Hasbin Hotel" is as follows:

Charlie, a princess from hell, pursues the seemingly impossible goal of rehabilitating demons in order to peacefully reduce overpopulation in her kingdom. After the angels exterminate the demons each year, she opens a hotel in the hopes that her patients will "check out" to heaven. Most of hell scoffs at her goal, but her devoted partner, Vaggy, and her first test subject, porn star Angel Dust, stand by her side. When a powerful entity known as "Radio Demon" reaches out to Charlie to assist her in her endeavors, her crazy dreams are given a chance to become reality.

Medrano is the fourth creator from the New York School of Visual Arts to sign a series deal in recent years. The other three are Rebecca Sugar of Steven Universe, Gary "Doodles" DiRaffaele of Breadwinners, and Dana Terrace of Owl House. Unlike the other three creators, Medrano pursued an independent route, developing and producing the original pilot without studio involvement.

A24 has not released any details about the format of the series or when and where it will premiere.
