Comedy Central launches short animated program

Comedy Central today announced a new short animation program that will allow creators to submit their short animation ideas directly to the network. Favorable projects will be offered development contracts.

The Viacom-owned channel is borrowing scripts from its sister channel Nickelodeon and its animated shorts program, whose biggest success is Chris Savino's The Loud House.

"We hope the animated shorts show is an evolution of our ongoing history of finding the next great comedic voice," said Sarah Babineaux and Jonas Larsen, the station's executive vice president and talent and development co-chairs.

"We are grateful to the very smart people at Nickelodeon for launching this incubator and are excited to add a touch of Comedy Central in hopes of the same kind of results that Nickelodeon has found."

The initiative to build the artist development incubator is being led by Comedy Central development executives Jose Acevedo, Ian Friedman, Kelsey Parker, and Michael Stanger, and includes The Daily Show with Trevor Noah, " Broad City," "Drunk History," and "Comedy Central Presents," and hopes to use it as a platform to discover new animation talent, as it has done with live action through shows like: Stand Up

Animated Shorts The program opens for submissions today and is open to creators across North America. They are looking for films between one and three minutes in length.

There are no restrictions on style or technique. Hand-drawn, digital 2D, CG, stop motion, and mixed media are all welcome. Deadline for submissions is December 31, 2018. Application specifications are available on the Comedy Central website.
