11 Animation Projects Selected as Finalists for 2018 Ideatoon Summit in Mexico

[The reason for this is simple: it is a truly unique program that supports the development of Mexico's exciting animation industry.

Pixelatl has learned from the mistakes of Asian countries that have become large animation outsourcing hubs over the past few decades. Therefore, Pixelatl's goal is not only to teach artists how to produce animation, but also to teach artists how to take a leadership role by learning how to develop their own content using industry standard methods. Increasingly, the program also trains young entrepreneurs on how to run an animation business.

Jose Inesta, founder and director of the program, says of what Ideatoon is: "Connecting Mexican creators to the world and overcoming boundaries has been our inspiration. We are a Mexican organization passionate about the power of storytelling, the development of original IP, and the promotion of the creative industry as a lever for Mexico's development, dignity and reconciliation."

In just five short years, the results of this program have been remarkable. I have attended most "Pixelatl" since 2014, and even in that short time, there has been a remarkable evolution in how event participants think about their characters and how they design their universes. In the past few years, several projects pitched at Pixelatl's Ideatoon have been selected for production by major entertainment companies, most notably Alan Ituriel's "Villainous" by Cartoon Network Latin America.

The latest edition of the Ideatoon Bootcamp took place last month in Cuernavaca, Mexico. The event received 250 submissions from all over Latin America, and 24 animation projects were selected. These 24 creators worked with nine international mentors and industry experts to develop and refine their ideas, and at the end of the event, 11 finalists were selected to advance to the Pixelatl Festival and Ideatoon Summit to be held in Cuernavaca, Mexico, from September 4 to 8. At the Ideatoon Summit, the finalists will pitch their projects to broadcasters and producers attending the summit.
