Disney TV Animation Produces Two New Series: "Amphibia" and "The Owl House

The Disney Channel announced this morning two new series: Amphibia and The Owl House. Both are produced by Disney Television Animation and will debut in 2019.

Ampihibia will be executive produced by Gravity Falls director and board artist Matt Braly. The show tells the story of Anne Boonchui, a self-absorbed teenager who is magically transported to the world of Ampihibia, a rural swamp inhabited by the Frog Tribe. There she meets a young frog named Sprig, who becomes Anne's first true friend and helps turn her into a hero.

The Owl's House, executive produced by Dana Terrace, is described as a horror comedy. Luz, an assertive teenager, accidentally enters a portal to the magical world, where she befriends the rebellious witch Eda and the tiny warrior King. Although she cannot use magic, Luz becomes an apprentice to Eda to pursue her dream of becoming a witch, and finds her new family in an unexpected place.

Terrace first wrote about the film six years ago when she was a student at the School of Visual Arts, but has since appeared in "Gravity Falls" and directed the recent "Ducktales" reboot. [Both Amphibia and The Owl House are set in imaginative worlds and share the hallmarks of great Disney storytelling, including fantastic elements and memorable characters. Matt and Dana each bring a unique sensibility that sets them apart from any other shows on television today."

In addition to the new show announcement, Disney Channel also announced today the order for a fourth season of Daron Nefcy's Star vs. the Forces of Evil.
