Gorillaz animated series, to be released in 2018.

New details have emerged about an animated series based on the cartoon band Gorillaz.

Co-creator Jamie Hewlett spoke about the project in an interview yesterday, saying that 10 episodes of the Gorillaz series will be produced for a 2018 release.

"I'll direct the first and last," he told Exclaim. But the other episodes will have to be directed by someone else.

Notably, the entire Gorillaz crew will be in 2D. Hewlett said:

I think it's a beautiful style of animation. Everyone is doing CG now, which is great when you're doing backgrounds like environments and landscapes, but not when you're doing actual characters. I am still very inspired by Chuck Jones' work and I love that animation. It's art. I want to keep the characters in that style for the rest of this campaign. So the characters in the show will be 2D, but everything else is up to me.

Hewlett has not ruled out using live-action footage or mixed-media elements such as collage or computer graphics within the series' format. It is also possible that artists from the new Gorillaz album "Humanz" and other guest stars will appear in the series.

Gorillaz's latest video, "Saturnz Barz (Spirit House)," was released last month to promote the release of "Humanz":[13
