'Big Hero 6' TV Series Coming in 2017

Disney XD will adapt "Big Hero 6" into a TV series, debuting next year.

Mark McCorkle and Bob Schooley ("Penguins of Madagascar" TV series, "Buzz Lightyear of Star Command," "Kim Possible") will executive produce for Disney Television Animation; TV animation Veteran Nick Filippi ("Wolverine and the X-Men," "American Dragon: Jake Long," "The Legend of Tarzan") will direct and share executive producer credit. Our friends at [Walt Disney Animation Studios] have created a wonderful new world with Marvel-inspired, vibrant and unique characters," said Disney Channels Worldwide President and Chief Creative Officer Gary Marsh said in a statement.

"It's full of the fun, action, and lovable storytelling that only Mark, Bob, and Baymax can deliver.

The series picks up from the end of the 2014 feature film and continues the adventures of 14-year-old tech genius Hiro and his robot, Baymax. The other members of Baymax, Gogo, Wasabi, Honey Lemon, and Fred, also appear in the series, balancing the superhero battles with Hiro's academic life at San Fransokyo Tech and the "social trials of being the little guy on campus."

Voice acting has not yet been announced.
