'Gravity Falls' Creator Alex Hirsch to Develop Animated Series at Fox

Alex Hirsch, the late director of Disney's "Gravity Falls," is developing an animated series at Fox.

Speaking to Variety, which first broke the news, Hirsch, 30, said, "I'm working on a whole new weird piece." Hirsch plans to develop a script and a pilot for the presentation. Details of the project have not yet been released, but it will likely have a more adult tone as it is being developed for a primetime slot. Fox has not committed to anything more than a pilot.

Hirsch's Disney XD series "Gravity Falls" will end its run with a one-hour finale on February 15. Hirsch wrote on Tumblr a few months ago, "Gravity Falls was always designed to be a finite series about one epic summer.

Hirsch acknowledged the Fox project news on his Twitter account yesterday afternoon:

The rumors are true! I'm preparing a new strange project in a new strange place. 2016 is going to be a crazy year."
